Land Use TREND. Protecting Golf Courses from Redevelopment. Read the Bill.
Nevada’s SB SB251 (2019 | NV) would prevent immediate redevelopment of golf courses unless the following is met:
- require public meetings
- require environmental impact study
- require a minimum amount of open space
- require evidence to a governing body that the golf course is no longer “financially viable” before any redevelopment is approved
- require any structures built on the converted land be set back 100 feet from any existing building
- require a golf course owner to continue maintenance of the property if the course discontinues daily operation
- require local governments create maintenance standards that protect the “health, safety, aesthetic, economic and general welfare of properties abutting the residential golf course and the protection of the surrounding neighborhood against nuisances, blight and deterioration.”
policy goal: protect property values for houses on golf courses
