Anatomy of a datacenter energy use disclosure bill

AB 1577 requires data centers to report energy use and energy efficiency information to the state. Oversight will rest with the California Energy Commission. The Commission will publish the anonymized data by 2029.

The bill also requires data centers to submit their energy and efficiency information to local government agencies in the area in which they want to build or operate a data center.
