Energy & Water
Last week a power line in D.C. went down. The grid reacted. Data centers moved to backup power. Then more power use dropped off the grid which left the grid with excess 3.49GW. This caused residences to see power flicker due to the excess load.
Solutions: On the data center side, technology could mask the peaks and valleys in a data center’s grid power and backup power so the grid identifies one stable power situation. On the grid side, ERCOT will require large loads like data centers to “ride through” disruptions.
