From the City of Houston perspective:
- Houston City Council on May 11, 2016 voted unanimously to challenge CenterPoint’s plan to increase rates by about 65 cents a month for the average Houston resident
- The vote triggers a Public Utility Commission hearing in June
- Houston joins the Gulf Coast Coalition of Cities which has asked the PUC to block the increase
From CenterPoint Energy perspective:
- The rate increase covers transmission and technology upgrades
- This incremental increases helps avoid big rate spikes when a formal rate case occurs
