Houston City Council. CenterPoint Energy. Rate Issues. The Intel:

From the City of Houston perspective:

  • Houston City Council on May 11, 2016 voted unanimously to challenge CenterPoint’s plan to increase rates by about 65 cents a month for the average Houston resident
  • The vote triggers a Public Utility Commission hearing in June
  • Houston joins the Gulf Coast Coalition of Cities which has asked the PUC to block the increase

From CenterPoint Energy perspective:

  • The rate increase covers transmission and technology upgrades
  • This incremental increases helps avoid big rate spikes when a formal rate case occurs
