Solar installations post-Hurricane Maria have doubled.

  • From September 2017 to September 2018 10,000 residential solar plus battery storage systems installed
  • Before then there was a total of 12,000 solar systems
  • 22 cents per kilowatt-hour in Puerto Rico
    • these high energy costs are said to drive push to renewables
  • Current Mix of Puerto Rico’s energy supply:
    • 3% renewable
    • 1% hyrdo power
    • 45% from petroleum
    • 34% from natural gas
    • 17%  from coal
