NERC 2026 summer assessment

NERC’s summer assessment finds load growth has increased by 11GW. In 2025 10GW were added while in 2024 5GW were added. Up, up, we go.

Risk has decreased to 3 regions and 1 locality. The regions are WECC in the Pacific NW, NPCC in New England, and SaskPower in Canada. The local risk is in the southwestern ERCOT region. 

NERC credits the grid strength to the record growth of solar battery storage, and natural gas generation.
