What is happening? Offshore wind is expected to grow. Here’s where we are now:

8 states set goals that total 39 gigawatts of capacity by 2040
15 projects have reached the permitting phase, from North Carolina to Maine
10 coastal states considered 27 offshore wind bills in 2022
10 bills have passed so far in 2022

Why is this important? Many projects focus on local manufacturing so that the turbines are built locally.

How will this be important? Federal officials are expected to hold the first offshore wind lease sale in California waters this fall.
