State Prohibits Gas Powered Lawn Equipment

What’s happening? California has banned gas powered lawn equipment in AB 1346 (2020 | CA) . To offset the cost of new equipment, the prohibition comes with $30 million in funding to help aid the transition

Why is this important? People say : “Operating a gasoline-powered leaf blower for one hour produces as much volatile organic compounds and NOx as driving a 2017 Toyota Camry from New York City to Orlando, Florida”

How will this be important? This debate occurred in Texas when TERP was being debated. Opposition in California included the National Association of Landscape Professionals. Hawaii has a leaf blower restriction and cities, including Washington D.C., also have prohibitions on certain gas powered lawn equipment.
