What is happening? A California non-profit is turning blighted properties into virtual power generators.

Why is this important? The non profit is taking dilapidated structures. Rebuilding. Adding the most energy efficient and energy producing equipment like energy-efficient lighting, an electric vehicle charger, an electric stove, electric heat pumps for heating and air conditioning, an internet-connected “smart thermostat,” solar panels, and a backup battery will allow future residents to keep the lights on and the refrigerator running during a power outage.

How will this be important? The House won’t go on the market, but will be affordable housing for elect first time home buyers.
