4 Problems with Texas Municipal Management Districts Explored
Texas Legislature’s 2017 creation of the University Hills Municipal Management District has given rise to the following concerns about this and similar special districts:
- A Dallas City Council member described the process as “comes across a bit shady.”
- Irving taxpayers had to bail out Las Colinas when its district’s debt ballooned
- Dallas has no representation on the district’s initial board
- Former Westlake Mayor calls special districts “undemocratic”- an extra layer of regulation & taxation
