ARPA For Guaranteed Basic Income in Chicago

What’s happening? Guaranteed Basic Income programs are moving to states other than California. Chicago is using ARPA funds to give 5,000 low-income households $500 per month.

Why is this important? The pilot has support of aldermen, but received pushback from “the 20-member Black Caucus, which has urged Lightfoot to redirect the money to violence prevention programs”

How will this be important? let’s start counting how many local jurisdictions start a guaranteed basic impact program and whether the programs save the local governmental entities funds in other areas.
