What is happening? Tennessee passed a a one-year sales tax exemption that waives the 7% state sales and 2.5% local option tax on sales of firearm safety and storage items. The 1 year tax exemption is anticipated to cost $320,000 to general revenue.

Why is this important? 6 other states offer tax breaks for gun storage, including Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

How will this be important? Some say storage equipment is cost prohibited for some gun owners and in lieu of support nonprofit entities distribute locks and other storage equipment.
