BLM Legislation. Governor Proposes Protest Restrictions

What new restrictions are proposed?

• new felony crimes when property is damaged
• new felony when people are injured as a result of protests involving seven or more individuals
• new crime to obstruct traffic during unpermitted protests or demonstrations
• eliminate bail or bond for people involved in violent protests

Echoing a proposal in Texas, the Florida Governor also proposes to punish local governments that reduce spending on law enforcement agencies, by withholding state funds and grants.

This is a great reminder that elected officials rarely recreate the wheel. Imitation is after all the greatest form of flattery.
