How Idaho Distributed its Budget Surplus

What is happening? Idaho is a fast growing state that had a nearly $2 Bill budget surplus. While that doesn’t sound like a lot to California, Texas or New York, when you’re Idaho and your total budget is about $4 billion then it is a lot.

Why is this important? Instead of the typical Republican push of refunds to taxpayers, the state chose to:

  • make capital investments
  • pay down debt
  • enact short-term and ongoing tax cuts
