Colorado: SB 217 (2020 | CO)
- bans police use of chokeholds
- limits the allowed use of deadly force
- requires an officer to intervene if a colleague is inappropriately using excessive force
New York is considering a package of bills that will:
- prohibit the use of chokeholds
- classify some false 911 calls as hate crimes
- clarify a right to videotape arrests
- require police officers to file reports when they discharge their weapons
- require police departments to start compiling data on the demographic breakdown of those they charge
- permit the release of police officers’ disciplinary records
