  • requires an officer to intervene if a colleague is inappropriately using excessive force 

New York is considering a package of bills that will:

  • prohibit the use of chokeholds
  • classify some false 911 calls as hate crimes
  • clarify a right to videotape arrests
  • require police officers to file reports when they discharge their weapons
  • require police departments to start compiling data on the demographic breakdown of those they charge
  • permit the release of police officers’ disciplinary records
