Stadium Building 2.0

What is happening? Phase 2 of stadium building- a boon of stadium renovations. Over the next decade it is estimate $20 billion will be spent on stadium renovations and building.

Why is this important? ” Since 2010, just 14% of the $16 billion spent on stadiums was publicly financed, according to an analysis of a University of Chicago study.” The hay day for stadium building was the 1990s and early 2000s, a time when most stadiums were publicly financed.

How will this be important? The 30-40 year leases of those original stadium builds of the 1990s are coming up for renewal. And what stadiums have to be has changed. Instead of a bunch of concrete, “NFL stadiums in particular have become more luxury- and amenity-laden experiences, maintaining that “standard” has become a much more expensive proposition.”
