State restoring clear pension benefits

Times and economy have changed. In 2006 Alaska stopped guaranteed state pension benefits, and the state has been trying to return to pre-2006 times. A bill is now headed to the Governor’s desk to restore the option of a guaranteed pension. House Bill 78 

For the policy nerds: the state sued the actuarial firm that gave lawmakers the unfunded liability numbers when the state switched to 401K style retirement for state workers.
