The Tax Foundation pontificates that taxes are killing sports betting. 40 states have adopted sports betting which amounted to $150 billion in bets in 2024. Sports betting is taxed locally, by the state and by the federal government. “Combining state taxes with the federal tax increases sportsbooks’ tax payments as a percentage of Net Gaming Revenue to between 22.3 and 92.7 percent, depending on which state a sportsbook operates in.”
