Atlanta Created the Largest Free Food Forest

What’s happening? Atlanta took on food deserts head on. Atlanta’s Browns Mill neighborhood is a 30 minute bus ride from the closest grocery store.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Why is this important? The food forest is a result of a partnership between the nonprofit organization @theconservationfund, with a grant from the U.S. Forest Service and in partnership with the city of Atlanta and Tree Atlanta. Together they created a 7.1-acre forest filled with 2,500 pesticide-free plants. It’s the largest food forest in the nation.

How will this be important? With insurers adding access to nutritious foods to policies and a greater focus on local food in the new economy.
