First German City Commits to Zero Waste

The City:
Kiel, a Baltic port , is the first and only German city to commit to the global “zero waste” initiative. 

The Goal:

eliminate waste, conserve and recover resources and not burn or bury them

Background: 

With a 68% recycling rate, Germany leads the EU in recycling. Many German cities believe enough is being done via these efforts although they are a top waste producer.

Others to commit to zero waste:

Corporate: Adidas, AG, Unilever, & BlackRock

Government: 300 municipalities in Italy, 100 municipalities in Spain, U.S. cities such as San Francisco
