Fort Worth Adds a Diversity & Inclusion Department

What is it?

The new department replaces the former Human Resources unit and has been allocated $942,111 to promote cultural awareness and equity in municipal services as well as enforce non-discrimination and civil rights laws.

Who:

Christina Brooks, formerly the Diversity & Inclusion Officer and LGBT liaison in South Bend, Indiana, the home of openly-gay Democratic presidential candidate Mayor Pete Buttegieg

Brooks’s Specific Experience:

  • established a community program for men of color and police officers to interact
  • SB ID program to provide immigrants an ID card for access to city services
  • “restorative justice” program for the mental wellness of neighborhoods
