American Food Waste.
If you pile up all the food that’s not eaten over the course of a year in the U.S., it would be enough to fill a skyscraper in Chicago about 44 times. Food waste emits methane in landfills and has been estimated to be responsible for 10% of greenhouse gas emissions.
Dairy Farmers to the Rescue.
Farmers feed waste into anaerobic digesters along with their cow manure to capture the methane emissions and make renewable energy.
Food Waste Supply.
Whole Foods grinds all types of food waste, from bones to vegetables and provides it to the farmers for their energy production.
Energy for All.
The farmers only use 10% of this energy. The rest goes into the grid which can provide additional income for the farmers.
