Social Impact
What is happening? A study by USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative has Rolling Stone calling the music industry a “sausage fest”
Why is this important? In 2021, 23.3% of artists, 4.4%of songwriters, and just 3.9% of producers for the biggest tracks were women. “On average for the decade, 12.7 percent of songwriters, 2.8 percent of producers, and 21.8 percent of artists behind the year-end Hot 100 were women.”
How will this be important? While gender equity has not increased, racial equity has improved. ” 57% of artists on the 2021 Hot 100 year-end chart coming from underrepresented racial groups compared to just more than 38 % in 2012.”
