NHL Creates Diversity & Inclusion Program for Coaches

Why Now?

Two NHL coaches have recently been accused of physically abusing players and using racial slurs.

NHL’s Response:

“Unequivocal” zero-tolerance for abusive behavior of any kind

Actions Taken: 

• “Severe discipline” when teams fail to report inappropriate behavior to club personnel 
• “Swift and severe discipline” for those involved in future or past incidents
• Mandatory, annual diversity and inclusion counseling for NHL coaches and GMs
• The formation of a disciplinary counsel
