Olympics Carbon Positive After 2030

How?

The International Olympics Committee (IOC) will invest in carbon savings to exceed the carbon emissions of host cities. 

Current carbon reducing efforts

• The IOC will support Africa’s Great Green Wall project to fight decertification by planting an Olympic Forest.
• As part of Dow’s Leading Blueprint 2025 Sustainability Goal the company is now the official Carbon Partner of the IOC and will reduce Olympic carbon emissions by 4 million tons.

Tokyo 2020

• All electricity for the competition venues and Olympic Village will be from 100% renewable sources.
• The Olympic vehicle fleet will feature carbon zero vehicles including hydrogen cars. 
• 65% of waste generated from the Olympics will be either recycled or reused.
