Vanderbilt Going Zero Waste by 2030

The 2030 “zero waste” goals:

  • 90% diversion rate from the landfill
  • 30% reduction in campus-generated waste

Vanderbilt’s Sustainability Track Record:

  • 30 year history of recycling
  • 1st premier institution in the Southeast to pursue carbon neutrality and set a Net Zero + Resilience energy goals (by 2050) 
  • currently diverts 47% of waste from the landfill

How the Goals Were Determined: 

On and off-campus stakeholders participated in a 9 month process to address the university’s carbon footprint and provide recommendations to reduce the university’s environmental impact.
