A.G. Opinion: County Fleets. Is tracking permitted?

KP-0111 details the power of vehicle policies by commissioners courts. A Commissioners court may generally adopt vehicle tracking policies that:

• apply to county vehicle, but if its a sheriff’s vehicle the policy can’t interfere with law enforcement’s ability to do its job
• vehicle use can be audited but only as it relates to county fiscal issues
