By the Numbers. Pennsylvania’s Miles Driven Fee
What’s happening? Pennsylvania is adding a miles driven fee to compensate for declining gas tax revenues.
Why is this important? The numbers behind the new miles driven fee:
- 33% fee reduction for trucks
- 8.1 cents per mile fee for delivery and freight trucks inlet of the diesel tax of 73 cents a gallon
- 3X the cost for a car that drives 13,000 miles per year at an average of 25 mpg
- $15 billion a year needed for transportation funding annually in Pennsylvania to meet transportation needs
- $1 fee for package delivery
- $1.11 fee for each ride share ride
- $5 (up from $3) state vehicle rental tax
How will this be important? Every state has declining gas tax revenues and many are considering miles driven fees.
